SA Canegrowers’ representatives visit the Maputo Bulk Sugar Terminal – Sociedade Terminal De Açucar De Maputo LDA (STAM) in Mozambique.
The terminal serves as a partner to the sugar industries in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Eswatini. The partnership allows South African mills based in Mpumalanga to cost effectively export sugar at a lower cost than if it was transported further south to the Durban port in KwaZulu-Natal. The bulk terminal has a capacity to store 175 000t of sugar and is independently managed. The port exports almost half-a-million tons of sugar annually.
Jacques Schoeman, who is the Grower Affairs Manager at SA Canegrowers described the facility as “world class”. The SA Canegrowers team expressed their thanks to the South African Sugar Association and the port authority for making the visit possible. “Africa is going places,” Schoeman said.
